Sun

The Sun of the Lotus World has two sides - light and dark, which is why it is sometimes called the Two-Faced. Changing its position, it illuminates the continents with streams of light and darkness, providing the alternation of day and night. Under the influence of the energies emanating from the luminary, the creatures inhabiting the Lotus World become more aggressive.

Losing the war with the Gods, the last ruler of the Imperium - the now destroyed state of mortals - tried to subjugate the power of the Sun. The magical ritual he performed was unsuccessful and provoked a cataclysm called "Retribution". During it, the Sun split, and its fragments fell on the Lotus World, piercing the hearts of mortals and endowing them with unprecedented power. Those who survived this process began to be called Shadows. The Retribution also gave rise to magical anomalies, new creatures, and even intelligent races.

There was once a Cult of the Sun in the Imperium that had great influence. In an effort to gain the favor of the Sun, its followers burned victims on ritual pyres. And even after the Retribution and the subsequent collapse of the Imperium, the Sun continues to excite the minds of mortals and Gods.

"As an integral part of the culture of the Lotus World, the image of the Sun is reflected in the mythologies of all Pantheons," is how the Olympian chronicler Actaeon describes the significance of the Sun.

Fragments of the Sun

Having split during the Retribution, the Sun began to shower the lands of the Lotus World with fragments. Divided into dark and light depending on the side of the Sun that gave birth to them, they hide many secrets. Only one thing is clear for sure: the colossal energy contained in the Sun Shards is capable of exerting a powerful influence on the world and its inhabitants.

For example, rats that lived in caves and were exposed to the radiation of the Sun Shards became a new intelligent race - ratlins. Some fragments, having fallen into the trunks of trees, turned them into centers of energy that influence the souls of the dead.

However, the most significant consequence of the Retribution was the appearance of the Shadows - mortals whose hearts were struck by the Sun Shards, granting them supernatural power.

Shadow

This is the name of mortals whose hearts were replaced by a Sun Shard that fell from the sky. The player assumes the role of a Shadow. At the moment of merging with the Shard, all memories of his previous life were erased from his mind. They were replaced by intoxication with incredible power, which would have torn the Shadow apart from the inside, without having a way out. And this way out was found. It was the Ritual of Becoming - a series of bloody and brutal fights held in the arena under the watchful eye of the Gods. Having won, the Shadow will have to relearn how to live in the Lotus World, full of enemies who want him dead.

Gods

The information about where and when the Gods appeared has sunk into the abyss of history. For mortals living in the present, they are eternal rulers, patrons and destroyers. Uniting into Pantheons, the Gods have shaped the appearance of the Lotus World over the centuries at their discretion. Olympus, Asgard and Nefar are the three alliances of immortals that have survived to this day. The other Gods either joined them or disappeared into the depths of the Ether along with the parts of the world they owned.

The Pantheons concluded a truce, breaking the Imperium - the last attempt of mortals to assert the right to independence. Being in a precarious balance, they strive to expand their influence and attract as many Shadows as possible to their banners. After all, every mortal with a fragment of the Sun instead of a heart, swearing allegiance to the Pantheon, increases its power.

The Great War

Having waged war against the Gods, Emperor Cassius Deorum soon realized that his armies would not be able to break the power of the Pantheons. Wanting to change the course of the conflict, he attempted to harness the power of the Sun with an ancient magical ritual. Having failed, the ruler of the Imperium provoked the Retribution - a cataclysm that split the sun.

Broken by despair, the Emperor committed suicide. His death became a death sentence for the entire realm. As soon as the dust settled, each High God wanted to rule over all that remained of the Imperium for himself. Breaking the truce declared during the war with Cassius, the Pantheons began to fight each other.

The clash of the armies of Asgard, Olympus and Nefar left deep scars on the lands of the Pole. And while in some regions they have almost healed over the years, others will never be the same. Seeing the horrific consequences of the battles between mortals and the Gods who fought under their banners, the lords of the Pantheons decided to make a new truce. Since then, their viceroys together control the lands of the Pole and rule the mortals who inhabit it.

Ether

The Lotus World drifts in a space called "Ether". Its nature is beyond comprehension. There is still debate about whether the Ether is the source of magical energy. Some minds of the Lotus World agree with this statement, others prefer to consider the Sun as the source of magic, and others remain silent.

Acting as a link between the Petals and the Pole, the Ether also serves as the only crossing between them. To travel in this space, the inhabitants of the continents use Leviathans - huge creatures that "float" along it.

Sometimes manifestations of other universes enter the Lotus World through the Ether, giving rise to strange and unpredictable phenomena. Images of the Lotus World, in turn, are projected outward through the Ether, reflected in worlds whose existence can hardly be imagined.

Magic

It permeates the Lotus World to its very foundation. Under its influence, the animals inhabiting it have taken on new, bizarre forms. Accumulating in the depths of the earth, magical energy saturates precious stones. When embedded in equipment or weapons, they give them special properties.
Those who have embarked on the path of understanding magic are usually called magicians in the Lotus World. Some of them try to subjugate it with the power of reason and science. Others pass streams of energy through themselves, surrendering to the power of supernatural forces. But whoever uses magic, it will inevitably entail consequences.

To this day, no one can say for sure why the Pantheons did not declare war on the Imperium back then. Whatever the Supreme Gods were guided by, their decision to establish trade and diplomatic relations with the new state led to its flourishing.

Forced to send her to the stake, the enraged Emperor stops all research and executes the scientists.
